I help groups
tackle hard problems by finding their common interests and ensuring all voices are heard.

Facilitating Leadership

1) During the three years that I led North Carolina’s Clean Water Education Partnership, I facilitated decision-making processes and helped members achieve consensus despite different priorities and needs.

2) During the two years that I managed the Clean Water Act-funded 205j and 319 grant programs for North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, I led grant review and selection committees, ensuring all voices were heard.

Both of these groups vote on decisions and seek ways to incorporate the interests underpinning minority opinions.

Public Meetings

For three years, I led public meetings for the Upper Cape Fear River Basin Association (UCFRBA), a group of wastewater dischargers who partner to collectively monitor and report on in-stream water quality to North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality as part of their wastewater monitoring obligations. The UCFRBA is 501(c)3 nonprofit and public body required to follow public meetings law.

Workgroups

While working for Central Pines Regional Council (CPRC), I facilitated the Smart Growth/Water Resources Collaborative, which provided staff and elected officials with continuing education and opportunities to collaborate on land use and water management. My role involved finding timely, relevant continuing education opportunities for members and facilitating discussion of ways to implement lessons learned at the regional scale. This (now defunct) committee was chaired by elected officials and included staff from local government, nonprofit, and private sectors.

Collaborative Decision Making

While working for CPRC, I provided meeting support for 1) the Triangle Water Supply Partnership, 2) Jordan Lake One Water Board Meetings, and 3) North Carolina’s Nutrient Science Advisory Board. The latter two employ forms of consensus-based decision making.
